Introducing the Sass Family

My name is Steven Sass and I have been married to Marina for almost 16 years. We have two boys, Karl (12) and Fredrich (10). I have been in fulltime Ministry in the Dutch Reformed Church in South-Africa since 2002. I studied at the University of Stellenbosch and received the following degrees: Bth(IV) Mdiv. and licentiate in Theology. I served in the following Congregations : Elliot (Eastern Cape), Patensie (Eastern Cape) and Kleinmond (Western Cape). Marina is an Accountant and also studied at the same University completing a BCompt. degree. She has her own practice and works remotely with her South-African clients’ accounts.

We felt the Lord calling us to the Church of Scotland for a number of years and we are grateful to start this call here in Forres with our placement year and Rev Donald Prentice as my supervisor. We are looking forward to learning more about the history and culture of the Scottish people and the Kirk.

Yours Truly

Summer Activities

Volunteers Needed

St Leonard’s  church  cannot run the usual summer “open Church” this year  due to Covid  and many of our usual volunteers being at risk. Music  recitals:  we do hope  to run  a few Wednesday music recitals  11:00am – 12:30pm limited by social distancing, starting 28th July.

Also we plan to open the Church Transcepts  for an art show for three days 10-12 August, 10:00am – 3:00pm. Volunteers are  needed to supervise exhibits  and welcome people.

ECO Vegetable Garden Scheme – with Vegetable Boxes

We are an eco congregation, as one of the five points of mission. This year we welcome  a new start up initiative of an enlightened, eco friendly, bio dynamic farm project. This is open to anyone to join, simply as passive members or as volunteer work on Thursday mornings. The membership for the weekly vegetarian  box  scheme  is a modest  amount.  Further details  from Donald  on 672380.

Donations of White Goods needed – Urgently

We are trying  to help a family  coming to work for the Church in Forres in the first week in August.

They  have only the suitcases of clothes they can carry  having given all their  household  to poor people  where they  have left. The aim is  to ask  all Forres  Christians  if they have any surplus  white goods  (like a spare washing machine, dryer, fridge, freezer etc) they might be willing to donate. This will enable a very committed Christian family engage  more quickly in God’s work. Please call Rev Donald Prentice on Forres  672380 for collection. Or use the contact form.

Hall Users Return

With restrictions gradually easing it is good to see the return of a number of our hall users.

The Boys’ Brigade are meeting on Tuesday evenings until the end of the school term. Step by Step are now back meeting each Wednesday morning with a toddler group at 10 and the First Steps baby group at 12. Then on Thursday evening the Brownies are meeting until term ends and on Friday morning a new Baby and Toddler Yoga class is taking place.

The Living Well Group, providing peer support for those living with long term conditions is set to reconvene mid -July with the ballet classes for over 50s, the Big Choir and a Zumba class all returning in early September. It is also hoped the Lunch Club will restart then as well.
